newborns | siloam springs, ar newborn photographer | baby makenzie is here!

Goooood morning internet! Since hurricane Issac is coming through, and we're all stuck inside because of the (much needed!) rain, I thought I would share another session with you guys! Today we have Miss Makenzie. I actually photographed Makenzies newborn session at the end of July, but it's never too late to share. Right? Right?

Look at this cute little face!

Makenzie did great for her session, and slept like a log for most of it. So precious!

Have you ever seen a cuter little outfit? I am in love with this little girls wardrobe!

Loving this shot of momma and baby!

Now at this point, due to an erm...accident (and lots of giggles!), Miss Makenzie was fully awake. Time for cute little portraits with her eyes open! Melissa, she is beautiful!

Big yawwwwn!!

Makenzie's parents are devout Jayhawk fans, so naturally we had to get some shots of her decked out with her Jayhawk bow! At this time, I did try to tell Makenzie's parents how cute she would look in OU colors as well, but alas, they were having none of it. Ah well, can't win them all!

So sweet! I love baby hands.

Thank you Melissa for choosing me to photograph Makenzie's newborn portraits! I am truly honored, and can't wait to catch up with her this fall!

Til next time,

(the other) Melissa

families | prairie grove, ar family photographer | battlefield park family session!

Today I'm delivering Justina's disc, so I thought it would be a great time to share their awesome Battlefield Park session, full of smiles and flying children (literally!) in Prairie Grove, AR. I originally met the Broughtons a couple months ago, for baby Linc's newborn session. Such a sweet little boy! This photo of Linc is one of my top fav newborn portraits:

Isn't he presh?

Look how much he's changed in 3 months! So handsome! I love these portraits of him and dad together.

Linc also has some cute big brothers. These boys are so much fun! Tons of smiles and laughter.

When I asked Justina and Jeremy to take some shots without the boys, they looked kind of surprised! I always try to get portraits of mom and dad alone, since most haven't had any taken since pre-children days. I love these shots of Justina and Jeremy together, and am so happy we took a second out to get them. Just gorgeous.

Justina, you are beautiful! Ladies, prepare to have a case of major hair envy. Wowza! Momma and her boys:

 Bare toesies!

Towards the end of our session, I asked Jeremy if they'd be interested in tossing the boys in the air a little bit. Whoa! They didn't mention until after the boys came back down from the clouds that they both used to cheer. These boys got lift!!

Who would of thought one could find a pile of leaves to play in in the middle of summer? This location was perfect!

Look at those longggg eyelashes! This was one tuckered out boy. So sweet.

Thank you Justina and Jeremy for choosing me to take your family photos, I loved meeting the rest of your family and catching up with Lincoln. He's grown so much and is such a precious little guy. Next shoot: superman cape for Koa required.

Happy thursday!

maternity | westville, ok maternity photographer | Baby Abilene is almost here!

Hey there! So um yeah...I'm a horrible blogger! I am running behind on everything (facebook updates, inquiries, and blogging), so I'm going to attempt to redeem myself with this awesome maternity session I shot last month. Yes internet, last month. Yowza.

This is the McKenzie family. Aren't they presh?

If you've ever had family portraits done, you know that getting your children relaxed and happy with their faces in the general direction of the camera is RARE. I, in a combined effort with Derek & Sheri, have found a solution for that. All you have to do is tell your kids that you will hold them upside down by their feet later, and boom! Happy children.

Looking at this family, one would never guess that they suffered a tragic loss last year. Lainee Pearl, was born last year at 32 weeks, asleep. Sheri brought along a weighted bear, and an angel wing necklace to represent Abilenes sister. This photo is by far my favorite image of our session, and I am so glad that Sheri thought to include Lainee in them. Rest in peace, little one.

I <3 these portraits of Derek & Sheri. So in love!

Awesome old barn! And an awesome wasp's nest! These boys be fearless.

Love the boys feet next to Abilenes dainty shoes!

Even though we got great portraits that day, had a lot of fun, and got stared at by a property owner until we left because there was a bull in her field (eeek!), we actually decided to shoot again on another day because we missed the sunset. I blame this on Derek for driving us all the way to Egypt (Egypt = anything that is 30 minutes from pavement). Man oh man, was that AC nice after being in that hot weather! Derek's secret motive for taking the long way around maybe? I'm just kiddin' ya, Derek :).

Both Sheri & I really wanted some images with the sun in them (sunflare...haaaay!!), so we decided to shoot again a week later. This time we were a bit closer to home, at the abandoned factory in Westville. I guess everyone decided to hay their fields at the same time, because this was the only one in town that still had part of the fields uncut. I'm glad, because this location turned out to be awesome! Simply stunning light.

37 weeks! Props to this momma, it was 100 degrees out and she handled it like a champ. Love this moment!

I. Love. Sunflare.

Sans kiddos, we were able to trample through the long grass to grab some intimate maternity portraits. This one is definitely my favorite from day # 2.

I'll end this post with one last gorgeous portrait of Sheri in that nummy light. For inquiring minds, the McKenzie family welcomed baby Abilene to the world two weeks later, in perfect health. Watch for her newborn session, coming soon!

Til next time,

Mel
